A Committee formed of manufacturers, engineers, academicians, suppliers and experienced contractors to provide a forum for discussion of the applications and limitations of this foundation element.

Committee Notes

  • Chairman, Howard Perko, has authored a book titled, Helical Piles: A Practical Guide to Design and Installation. The text is a valuable resource and reference on helical piles and useful to any practicing engineer or constructor involved in the design or construction of foundation or earth support systems.  To learn more and order a copy, go to

  • Following on the success of the seminar in February 2010 in Las Vegas before World of Concrete, the committee plans to hold its 2011 seminar in Houston, TX in March.  Check back for further information as it develops.  If you have a presentation proposal for the event, contact DFI Headquarters.
  • Committee members plan to fund research in helical foundations and tiebacks by universities and private research firms.
  • The committee recommends www.helicalpierworld.com as a valuable resource for helical pile information.
  • Efforts are also being made to have helical piles included in the New York City Building Code which has initiated the release of an RFP from local geotechnical engineering consultants to develop code language for addressing helical piles in NYC by NYC Dept. of Buildings.
  • The committee continues work on performance specifications on helical anchorage and expects further development to last through this year in order to incorporate comments provided by the DFI technical advisory committee. Anyone interested in contributing to the document is asked to join the committee.  See below for how to join.
  • Interested in becoming a member of this committee? Write a letter to DFI Headquarters on your company letterhead, indicating your interest in joining and your reasons/experience level.
