António A. Cristóvão and Alexandre Pinto, JetSJ Geotecnia, Lda, Portugal

Deep foundations of buildings using driven ductile iron micropiles TRM solutions, leads to recognized advantages, from technical, schedule and economic points of view. High production rates together with the possibility of using conventional equipment, duly adapted, confer this solution a high versatility. The aim of this paper is to describe the main design criteria adopted for the foundations of the Church "Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes" building in Lisbon - Portugal. In addition, results of a full scale load test carried out at site are presented, confirming the adequacy of the solution to the geological and geotechnical scenario, which is characterized by the proximity of the Tagus River Basin as well as the presence of heterogenous landfill material and alluvial layers of soft clay (muds).
