Augered Cast-In-Place Pile Inspector's Video
Rudolph P. Frizzi, P.E.

The past twenty years has seen a significant increase in auger cast-in-place pile use. This growth can be attributed to construction installation equipment and material improvements, increased contractor capabilities, and growing acceptance by design engineers and regulatory authorities. The Deep Foundations Institute and its Auger Cast-In-Place Pile Committee have taken a leading role in proving a forum for contractors, practicing engineers, and academics to develop consensus documents for guiding proper augercast pile design, specification, installation, and inspection. While individual presentations have been memorialized in the proceedings from past DFI annual meetings and international conferences, the following documents and presentations specific to the use of auger cast-in-place piles have been developed: 1-The Auger Cast-In-Place Pile Model Specification, first edition published in 1990 under committee Chairman Richard Hoener. 2-The Inspectors Guide to Auger Cast-In-Place Piles, first edition published in 1994 under committee Chairman Joel Moskowitz. 3- One-day specialty conferences on auger cast-in-place pile design, construction, and quality control, inaugurated at Orlando, Florida in 1997. A subsequent meeting was held at Houston, Texas in 1998, and this year's meeting is the continuation of what is planned to be annual meetings held at different geographic locations. The Augered Cast -In-Place Pile Inspector's Video is the DFI's latest contribution to asist in improved augercast pile inspection. The video is intended to provide an active tool to help inspectors visualize the different aspects of auger cast-in-place pile construction. It can also serve as an introduction to auger cast-in-place pile construction. It can also serve as an introduction to auger cast-in-place pile construction for those not familiar with its use. The video was produced by the DFI Auger Cast-In-Place Pile Committee, chaired by Tracy Brettman of Berkel & Company. Construction video footage at projects completed by HJ Foundation and Berkel & Compan was filmed by Bruce Palmer who also complied and edited the video. Video animation was provided by Berkel. Rudy Frizzi of Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Kirk McIntosh of Law/Gibb , and Tim Roberts of Fugro led the video review process in which over twenty Committee members participated. The DFI gratefully acknowledges the following firms for underwriting the video production costs: American Piledriving Equipment, Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc., Fugro, Inc., Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc., Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, Richard Goettle Inc., Hardman Construction, Inc., L.G.
