Innovative Methods of Dealing with Contaminated Soils in Drilled Shafts
William F. Loftus PE
When high capacity diameter pipe piles are driven open-ended into the underlying bedrock, the material gathered inside the pipe often must be excavated to allow concrete to be placed within, in a clean environment. This paper discusses a method of dealing with this "to be excavated material-the contaminated soil of the Harlem River in New York City, USA."
