2 Design Values for Bearing Capacities of Piles Derived by use of Statistical Methods

Evaluation of bearing capacity for driven piles involves many uncertainties such as accuracy of method used for bearing capacity calculation, amount of tests performed and quality of installation procedure. The uncertainties can be taken into account by the use of partial factors for each uncertainty. This paper describes how to calibrate the partial coefficients by using a, so-called, level two statistical approach. The uncertainties are described by estimating mean value and standard deviation for each stochastic variable.
