J.M. Seitz; Bilfinger & Berger, Bauaktiengesellschaft, Mannheim, Germany
As part of the modernization program for the sewage treatment plant in Alexandria in Egypt, one of the largest diaphragm wall shafts was constructed. The shaft is to facilitate the erection of a pump station. In the execution of the work, highest demands were placed on accuracy of construction of the diaphragm walls. Evidence was provided by a full measurement program conducted during and after construction. A specially-designed system of stop-end tubes is used to form the joints between primary and secondary panels. This paper describes the diaphragm construction.
