A new type of deep foundation has been developed which is composed of a soil-cement column and steel tubular pipe with ribs on its surface. In construction, cement milk is injected and mixed with in-situ ground soil to make a soil-cement column, is inserted into it. The construction can be carried out with small amounts of soil removed from the ground, and with small noise and vibration. The ribs effectively unify the soil-cement column and the steel pipe so that the piles are expected to have a large bearing capacity. The new pile foundations have been applied to several projects and those effectiveness has been confirmed therein by loading tests and some other analyses.
