Prediction of Load-Settlement Curve of Pile Groups in Egyptian Soils

Suggested procedure for pile group analysis is based on the pile interaction analysis for pile group resting on compressible stratum. A computer program has been prepared for calculating the settlement ratios of the pile group settlement to the settlement of a single pile at different load levels and accordingly the average load-settlement curve of pile group can be predicted. Design charts are presented for determination of settlement ratios for different cases of pile groups. A number of comparisons between measured and predicted settlements of pile groups are presented. Studies for a pile raft foundation beneath a high rise building in Cairo and for isolated footings on pile groups beneath another building have been done using this procedure and a close agreement between predicted and measured load-settlement curve is obtained. Another two cases of pile groups in U.S.A. and London were studied using the suggested procedure. The predicted load settlement curves are well compared with the actual measured curves.
