Soil Nailing: Overview of Design Methods
The fundamental concept of soil nailing consists of placing in the ground, passive inclusions, closely spaced, to restrain displacements and limit decompression during and after excavation. It appears that the technique has emerged as an extension of the "New Austrian Tunneling Method" which combines reinforced shotcrete and rockbolting to provide a flexible support system for the construction of underground excavations.
