Presentation and Comments on DEF's Standard Testing Method for Deflection Characteristics of Pile Driving Cushion Materials

This cushion standard fills a void in the foundation engineering profession by providing a standard testing method for static testing of cushion materials. The standard provides for specimen parameters, apparatus, procedure for testing, calculation methods, and a standard report and curve form. The standard, while intended for static testing, should provide a base from which a meaningful dynamic test method may be derived. The methods are applicable to both hammer cushions and pile cushions, whether they be proprietary or generic in nature.
