Prediction of installation of sheet piles using vibratory hammers
Predicition of the pile installation process is often performed when impact hammers are used. However, the installaiton process can also be predicted when vibratory hammers are applied. Results like penetration rate, stresses in the pile, vibratory hammer performance, final penetration level, and refusal can be predicted. Results on hammer performance are useful in optimising the pile installation. In this paper, the model, as implemented in TNOWAVE, for the pile driving prediction of the installation process by a vibratory hammer will be described. Modelling of pile and hammer is rather straightforward. More difficult is the modelling of the soil. Therefore an overview of the soil modelling and the soil parameters is given. A case will presented in which a comparison is made of calculated and measured results.
