Installation and testing of a new vibration-free piling system, the Europile
H. de Kruiff & T.N.J. Vinks
In response to the growing demand for low-noise and vibration-free installation of foundation piles, dirk Verstoep B.V. developed the Europile. The concrete shaft is manufactured horizontally, using the centrifugal casting technique, and is prestressed. Running round the lower end of the pile is an integral concrete screw thread. The pile is installed by screwing it into the soil with a 250 kNm drilling machine. Europiles have been installed in connection with the widening of railway bridge in the Netherlands. One pile was tested in three different ways, using the static, quick and Statnamic loading tests. Three more piles were also tested by the Statnamic method. The present article describes the manufacturing and installation processes and discusses the test results.
