A new analysis method of double sheet-pile wall structures

A calculation model and its solution for estimating static behaivors of double sheet-pile wall structure are proposed. Notably, the analytical method is extended from Ohori and others’ elasto-plastic theory to consider not only the condition when the two lines of sheet-piles have the same pile-rigidity but also the more general when one pile-rigidity is different from another. By operating the fourth order simultaneous differential equations that have explained the interaction among sheet-piles, tie rod and filling sand as a matrix form, we obtained the general solution with reduction of the order of the equations. Then we presented the same numerical calculation using this new method to grasp the characteristics of double wall with different pile-rigidities. We also conducted model tests to examine the validity of the new method. The calculation results show the good agreement with the test results. The main factor to design the double sheet-pile wall is to select proper sheet-piles against external load. From this point of view, it is significant that the new analysis method is able to deal with the various pairs of pile-rigidity, and it comes in useful as an economical and safe design method.
