The DFI of India Sustainability Committee is a collaborative group of professionals from across the geotechnical and foundation engineering industry, committed to advancing sustainable practices within the sector.

Venu Raju, Ph.D., earned a bachelor’s degree at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and advanced degrees from Rice University, Duke University and Karlsruhe University. He joined Keller in 1994 progressing to be group director for engineering and board member. Raju is now a senior advisor for sustainability at Keller and a professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Purpose Statement

To guide the deep foundations industry on its sustainability journey as it looks to achieve the sustainability goals of India and the planet.

  1. Create awareness in the industry, for both clients & member organizations, about the importance and relevance of sustainability in the geotechnical sector.
  2. Train foundation industry engineers on carbon footprint calculations, using the EFFC/DFI Carbon Calculator.
  3. Provide an industry overview for setting carbon reduction targets with metrics on measurement of progress.
  4. Develop and extend the EFFC/DFI guidance documents on carbon reduction and circularity to make them relevant, practical and actionable in India.
