Geo-Industry Technology Users Groups
These joint industry groups were created in cooperation with FHWA, Geo-Institute, DOTs, DFI and TRB Committee AKG20 to address users’ needs.
Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) Users Group
This joint industry group was created in cooperation with FHWA, Geo-Institute, DOTs, DFI and TRB Committee AKG20 to address CPT users’ needs. Anyone interested in cone penetration testing is welcome to join. Regular monthly virtual meetings are held using MS Teams on the last Tuesday of the month 3:00 p.m. (ET). Please contact the chair for joining instructions. Teams will also be used to house information generated by the group, and links will be provided on this webpage for access.
Group Chair: Gerald Verbeek
Geophysics Users Group
This joint industry group was created in cooperation with FHWA, Geo-Institute, DOTs, DFI and TRB Committee AKG20 to share information and provide a forum for interaction among geophysics users. The group will be undertaking a launch project, DIGGS for Geophysics, that will contribute to the ASCE/DIGGS XML schema by incorporating geophysical data. The ambitious goal of the project is to develop a fully functional geophysical module in DIGGS in about one year.
Anyone interested in geophysics is welcome to join. Regular monthly virtual meetings are held using MS Teams on the second Tuesday of each month at 3 pm EST. Teams will also be used to house information generated by the group, and links will be provided on this webpage for access.
Group Co-Chairs: Phil Sirles and Jeff Reid, P.G.
Geophysics Web Tool
The purpose of the geophysics web tool is to provide highway engineers with a basic knowledge of geophysics and nondestructive test (NDT) methods for solving specific engineering problems during geotechnical site investigation, construction, and maintenance of highways.
Measurement While Drilling (MWD) Users Group
This joint industry group was created in cooperation with FHWA, Geo-Institute, DOTs, DFI and TRB Committee AKG20 to share information and provide a forum for interaction among MWD users. The technology is used widely in the US for monitoring foundation installation, but much less frequently for subsurface exploration purposes. The users group will take on projects such as completing an MWD implementation guide and working on a US standard for the technology, as well as generally educating and sharing information about the technology among members.
Anyone interested in MWD is welcome to join. Meetings are usually held on the last Wednesday of each month. Teams will also be used to house information generated by the group, and links will be provided on this webpage for access.
Group Chair: Jean Benoit, Ph.D.
First International Conference on Monitoring While Drilling
The First International Conference on Monitoring While Drilling (MWD’1) will be held on October 7 and 8, 2025, in Giesbeek, The Netherlands. The conference venue offers both indoor and outdoor facilities. The outdoor facilities will be used to display drill rigs with MWD equipment.
