DFI is a leading international organization dedicated to advancing the geotechnical industry through research, education, and collaboration among professionals worldwide. For professionals working in the geotechnical and deep foundations industry in the Middle East, this global network is complemented by a dedicated regional presence through DFI Middle East, a regional association established to support the specific technical and professional needs of the geotechnical industry in the Middle East.

Who is DFI Middle East?

DFI Middle East was founded in 2010 following the success of the Piling & Deep Foundations Middle East 2010 conference held in Dubai. The event was organized by IQPC and technically programmed by the Deep Foundations Institute in collaboration with the Dubai Development Authority (formerly the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority). The strong engagement from the geotechnical community during this event demonstrated the need for a permanent regional platform for technical exchange and professional collaboration, which led to the establishment of the Middle East chapter.

Since its formation, DFI Middle East has organized numerous conferences, workshops, and technical events, and has actively participated in major industry forums across the region. Through these activities, the chapter continues to promote best practices, technical knowledge exchange, and professional development, contributing to the advancement of geotechnical engineering practice and the geotechnical industry in the Middle East.

DFI Middle East Regional Report

In 2025, DFI’s Middle East Chapter centered its efforts on preparing for the Geotechnical Talks at The Big 5 Global Dubai, taking place November 24–27, just as this issue of the magazine is published. This annual session has become the chapter ’s flagship event; attracting engineers, contractors, academics and technology providers from across the region.

Tea Time Technical Talks

DFI’s Middle East Chapter is pleased to bring quality presentations on timely technical topics to geoprofessionals in the Middle Eastern and Northern African regions. Best part? They are online so you can log in from anywhere in the world and participate!

The Tea Time Technical Talks occur on the first Tuesday of every other month from January through November 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. UAE ST.

Each Talk includes a technical presentation by an industry expert followed by a question and answer session.
