The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, recently awarded the first Clyde N. Baker, Jr. Foundation Engineering Scholarship.
The recipient of the $5,000 award is Firas Janabi, a Ph.D. candidate in geotechnical engineering at Purdue University.
The fund, which honors Baker’s contributions to the deep foundations industry, provides scholarships to students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate civil engineering program at any accredited college or university in the United States. Recipients must demonstrate academic merit, an interest in the area of foundations engineering and financial need.
The DFI Educational Trust manages 20 scholarship programs funded by endowments, donations and fundraising events. Since 2006, the Trust has awarded $1.4 million in scholarships to more than 400 students studying at colleges and universities across the United States and the Province of Ontario, Canada.
