Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, recently awarded scholarships from the Menard Carnegie Mellon University Scholarship, Stanley Merjan City College of New York (CCNY) Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund, George J. Tamaro Manhattan University Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund and William F. Loftus Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Two students from Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering received scholarships this fall. Dalton Harmon, an undergraduate student, and Beatrice Wu, a graduate student.
Three Grove School of Engineering students each received $5,000 awards from the Stanley Merjan City College of New York Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 2010 and is named for the late Stanley Merjan, an inspiration and mentor to young engineers throughout the construction industry, and a graduate of City College of New York. The recipients, all senior civil engineering students, were Liberty Abordo, Mame Diarra Diokhane and Patryk Kwiatkowski.
Two seniors from Manhattan University each received $2,500 awards from the William F. Loftus Memorial Scholarship Fund, recently established in memory of Bill Loftus, a DFI founder and the only DFI president to serve twice. The recipients were Alexandra Castellano and Mark Markic.
Six Manhattan University students each received $2,500 awards from the George J. Tamaro Manhattan University Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is named for George J. Tamaro, a member of the first class of DFI Legends award winners and a graduate of Manhattan University. The recipients, all junior or senior civil engineering students, were Annas Alokush, Brady Flood, Samuel Guzman, Caitlin Haiduk, Emanuel Lala and Konstantine Mendrinos.
The Manhattan University students were recognized at the Trust’s Annual Gala in New York in November.
The DFI Educational Trust manages 22 scholarship programs funded by endowments, donations and fundraising events. Since 2006, the Trust has awarded $2.2 million in scholarships to more than 550 students studying at colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada.
