DFI has published a new research report, Design Considerations for Bonded Micropile-to-Structure Connections, authored by Jesús Gómez, Ph.D., P.E., BC.GE, GEI Consultants.

This report focuses on developing the basis for a design or verification method of bonded micropile-to-existing concrete footing connections using simple design steps. The method allows designers to assess the available capacity of a proposed micropile-to-existing footing connection constructed by direct bonding of the micropile to the footing. This effort was funded through DFI’s Committee Project Fund and endorsed by the joint DFI-ADSC Micropile Committee.

“This paper is a culmination of Dr. Gomez’s dedication and hard work for an important part of micropile design for retrofits and existing foundations,” says Dennis Ambio, Apex Geotech Solutions and DFI-ADSC Micropile Committee co-chair. “We expect that his findings and research lead to achievable constructability results and answer often asked questions surrounding designs for bonded connections with existing footings.”

The report is free and can be downloaded from the DFI Publications Store at members.dfi.org/publication-store.
