Peter Kandaris, P.E., has been selected to deliver the Hal Hunt Lecture on Communication at SuperPile ’26 taking place June 24–26 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Established in 1989, the lecture was named in honor of Hal W. Hunt, one of the initial organizers of DFI.

Kandaris’ lecture, “We Gotta Talk . . . and Listen,” gives an uplifting perspective on the value of verbal communications toward self-improvement and happiness, and helps recognize when opportunities present themselves or what happens when things don’t go as planned. Through a series of stories Kandaris presents a talk on how relatable conversations at important stages of life changed his future.

“We often take for granted the impact of communication on the trajectory of our personal relationships, careers and futures,” says Kandaris. “Whether by remaining silent or passionately advocating for a cause, verbal communication influences life’s paths.”

Kandaris recently retired as a chief engineer for Gannett Fleming (now GFT). During his 43-year career as a geotechnical engineer in the power industry, he was a senior consultant with DiGioia Gray for 10 years and the 30 years prior to that he was a senior principal engineer with the Salt River Project in Arizona. He is an active member of ASCE Geo‐Institute, ASCE Design of Overhead Line and Substation Foundations Subcommittee of the Electrical Transmission and Substation Structures Committee, Geo‐Institute’s Deep Foundations Committee, and is the co-chair of DFI’s Electric Power System Foundations Committee.

SuperPile ’26 — hosted by DFI in partnership with ADSC-IAFD — also features technical presentations selected from submitted abstracts, Gulf Coast-focused case histories, panel discussions, the Osterberg Lecture, student programming, and a dynamic exhibit hall showcasing the latest technologies and services.
